Christian is a landscape architect and urban designer with 20 years of experience in landscape architecture, urban design, resort planning & design, and community planning. His experience on a number of complex projects within the United States, China and other parts of South East Asia has spanned the full spectrum of services from conceptual design and programming to detailed design and implementation of projects. Christian currently serves as Director of Landscape Design for Sasaki Associates in San Francisco.

 

Christian completed his undergraduate work at Cal Poly Pomona where he received his first professional degree in landscape architecture (BSLA) and the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Certificate of Merit for excellence in the study of landscape architecture. He went on to graduate from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design with his post professional degree in landscape architecture (MLA II) with an emphasis in urban design.

 

Prior to joining Sasaki, Christian had his own landscape architecture practice (Landscape Office Ltd) together with his wife, Jennifer Brooke in San Francisco. Born out of their experience working for internationally recognized landscape architecture and planning firms, their office was an opportunity to carry on the tradition of their mentors through the practice of highly professional and creative work. Through Landscape Office Ltd Christian created a portfolio of work that is award winning and includes urban plazas, corporate and university campuses, sculpture gardens, private residences, resorts and community land plans.

 

Notable projects include the national ASLA award winning 560 Mission Street Plaza project in San Francisco, Ca and the award winning LEED Gold rated California Public Employment and Retirement System (CalPERS) Headquarters in Sacramento, along with a variety of other public open space projects in San Francisco and Asia. In addition, he played a significant role in the design and planning of various prestigious resort and planning projects throughout the western United States and South East Asia.

 

Christian has consistently worked for extended periods of time in Southeast Asia and China conducting urban design, planning and resort design charrettes. He is a regular guest critic for advance planning and design studios at the University of California at Berkeley.
